Gosport residents can now access free digital training to help them navigate everything from online banking to building websites, thanks to a government-funded initiative aimed at boosting digital skills in the borough.
The programme, funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and launched in 2023, is designed to help those struggling with everyday digital tasks, such as booking GP appointments through the NHS app or managing finances online, to gain confidence and independence.
Citizens Advice Gosport is delivering the training across three locations: the main centre, YourSpace, located at 51-52 Gosport High Street, and two satellite sites at Elson Community Library and Lee Community Library. All centres are equipped with computers and staffed by experienced digital trainers.
“We have three sites across Gosport that provide digital training to anyone who needs it,” said Karen Loneragen from Citizens Advice. “Each location is designed to be welcoming and supportive, and our goal is to teach people exactly what they want to learn.”
Training sessions run as informal drop-ins or bookable appointments and are open to the public free of charge. At YourSpace on the High-street this is available from Tuesday to Friday, 10:00am to 4:00pm,
The programme was recently featured on That’s TV Solent, which visited the YourSpace centre to highlight the initiative. In the segment, Karen Loneragen shared how the training is making a real difference in bridging the digital divide in Gosport. You can watch the feature here
