Solent Sauna brings a slice of Scandinavian wellness to Gosport’s seafront, blending wood‑fired heat, cold‑water dips and a strong sense of community. After discovering seaside spa culture on a trip to Dorset, founder Georgina Herbert seized the chance to bring the experience home when Gosport Borough Council opened applications for beachfront concessions. Ten months later, Solent Sauna opened its doors, offering contrast therapy sessions that boost circulation, ease muscle tension and leave guests feeling energised. But for Georgina, the magic goes far beyond the physical benefits. “People arrive not knowing anyone and leave with new friends,” she says. “It’s as much about connection as it is about wellness.”
That community spirit has made Solent Sauna a social hub on the shoreline. Men’s mental health groups meet there to talk, families book private sessions for celebrations, and locals stop by simply to say hello. Georgina runs the sauna alongside her NHS role, rising at 4.45am to prepare the space before the first guests arrive. Sessions range from 30‑minute express visits to full 60‑minute experiences and private group hire, with the busiest season running from September to March.
Whether guests brave the sea or cool off with fresh water, they leave feeling reset, uplifted and part of something special. As Georgina puts it, “So many people have told me this is one of the best things to arrive in Gosport. That means the world.”
