Sailing is at the heart of Gosport’s outdoor life. The town’s marinas—Haslar Marina, Gosport Marina, and Royal Clarence Marina—provide excellent access to the Solent, one of the UK’s most famous sailing waters.

Thanks to its sheltered harbour, open access to the Solent, and miles of scenic coastline, Gosport is an excellent destination for sailing. Charter a yacht, take RYA sailing courses, join a Solent sailing experience, or book a private sailing trip.

Jib and Tonic Sailing and Solent Yacht Charter run skippered and bareboat yacht charters from Gosport’s Haslar Marina, and Stokes Bay Sailing Club is a friendly local sailing club welcoming people of all ages.

Paddleboarding and Kayaking in Gosport

On calmer days when the wind drops, paddleboarding and kayaking are ideal outdoor activities. Popular paddleboard spots in Gosport include Stokes Bay and Alverstoke Lake.

Stoked Watersports in Stokes Bay rents paddleboards and kayaks and GoSport Activity Centre does paddleboard and kayak rentals and lessons at Alverstoke Creek, as well as summer SUP yoga sessions.

Walking in Gosport

Gosport’s peninsula location makes it a perfect place for walking with urban trails taking in maritime heritage to coastal and countryside ways.

Delve into Gosport’s fascinating maritime history with the Gosport Waterfront Trail, a self-guided 3km walk through historic Gosport with scenic harbour views, or take a stroll along the Millennium Walk, a scenic brick pathway along Gosport’s waterfront.

The Alver Valley trail in the Alver Valley Country Park provides a natural setting of woodlands, meadows, and wetlands rich in wildlife.

On the coast, The Solent Way passes through Gosport, forming part of a longer 60-mile walking route along the Hampshire coastline.

Millenium Walk cycling

Cycling in Gosport

Getting out on a bike is one of the most enjoyable ways to discover Gosport, and the former Gosport to Fareham railway line is a great option with over two miles of quiet cycle track and a further two miles of dedicated cycle path following the Eclipse Busway.

You can also cycle along the coast – Marine Parade in Lee-on-the-Solent is a flat, shared cycle and foot path with sea views, and you can extend your ride by continuing east to Stokes Bay.

For the more adventurous, the cycle routes and Gosport BMX track in Alver Valley Country Park are a must-visit for off-road cycling fun.

Golf in Gosport

Get into the swing of golf at the Gosport & Stokes Bay Golf Club, a challenging 9 hole links course with views across to the Isle of Wight, or  Lee-on-the-Solent Golf Club set inland from the coast, on beautiful park and heathland.

For families, Solent Springs Adventure Golf in Stokes Bay is a pirate-themed 12-hole crazy golf course with views overlooking the Solent.

Swimming in Gosport

Dip your toes in the water or go for a swim at one of Gosport’s beaches at Stokes Bay or Lee-on-the-Solent.

Lee-on-the-Solent Beach has zoned swimming areas in the summer, and at Stokes Bay, you can combine your dip with a visit to the Solent Sauna to warm up with a view of the water.

The breezy coastline at Stokes Bay and Lee-on-the-Solent have become hotspots for wind watersports, where the wide beaches and consistent winds provide excellent conditions for beginners and advanced riders alike.

Several local shops specialise in equipment for windsurfing and kitesurfing, including The Watersports Centre in Lee-on-the-Solent and Andy Biggs Watersports.

At Stokes Bay Sailing Club, a Watersports Membership includes access to the facilities for windsurfing and wing-foiling.

Stoked Watersports in Stokes Bay rents SUP wings so that you can harness the wind from your paddleboard and try out this new and growing watersport.

Parks and Splash Parks in Gosport

Gosport has an excellent variety of green spaces and play areas all free for young children to enjoy, including the large play area at Alver Valley Country Park and Walpole Park, which also has a boating lake, open spaces, and gardens.

In the summer months, the Gosport Splash Park at Stokes Bay and the Lee-on-the-Solent Splash Park are perfect places for young children to play and keep cool.
