As well as a great location for a break, Gosport is also ideal for exploring Hampshire and the surrounding area. A five minute ferry trip across the Harbour (or approximately 30 minutes by car), place some of the best attractions that Portsmouth has to offer within easy reach. From the Historic Dockyard – home to HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and HMS Warrior 1860 – to the iconic Spinnaker Tower and leisure complex of Gunwharf Quays, past and present combine to offer great days out, as well as shopping and entertainment. Also within walking distance is Old Portsmouth and the city centre.

With great rail, bus, coach, catamaran and taxi connections near to the Ferry terminal, its easy to visit the nearby attractions in Southsea nearby, or take the Hovercraft to the Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight

If you fancy a trip to the Isle of Wight you won’t be disappointed; with stretches of sandy beach, plenty of family activities, quaint villages and cream teas. For the active there are cliff-top walks and sailing and watersports galore. The island comes alive in June when the Isle of Wight Music Festival takes place, and again in August for the two-week sailing spectacle that is Cowes week.

Travel to the Island on foot or bike by catamaran – a 20 minute journey from Portsmouth Harbour Railway station to Ryde pier. Alternatively, foot passengers can take a 10-minute Hovercraft ride from Southsea beach to Ryde. If you want to take your car or camper van, then there is a car ferry that runs from Old Portsmouth to Fishbourne – a leisurely 40 minute trip that gives you the chance to enjoy the views and fresh sea air from the upper deck.


A beautiful cathedral city and the former home of King Alfred the Great, Winchester offers ancient history, rolling countryside and a great independent shopping and dining experience. Approximately 40 minutes from Gosport by car or why not take the train?

New Forest

In less than an hour you can be in the New Forest National Park, enjoying the local ice-cream, wandering amongst the wild ponies and heather, or discovering the beautiful villages that make up this very special place.
