17th Century Village: 1642 Experience

This fascinating living museum of seventeenth century life in rural southern England never fails to fascinate and delight visitors. Tour the village and let the costumed interpreters – the ‘villagers’ – involve you in their daily life. Observe the skills of the blacksmith, help prepare timber and admire the craft of the lace-makers and weavers.

Allow plenty of time for your visit as the leisurely pace of life and temptations of the local ale-house may well cause you to linger!

Given the Village’s location on the edge of the Alver Valley, why not make a day of it – bring a picnic and take a gentle stroll through this green oasis. If you are visiting between March and October you may want to obtain a permit for the Wildgrounds nature reserve.
