Telling the story of naval warfare from the days gunpowder to modern missiles, the two hour tour of the museum includes a stunning multi media film show set in an original 18th century gunpowder vault.

There's fascinating social history too, including the story of how 2,500 women worked on the site during it's peak in World War II.

Spitbank Fort

Spitbank Fort was built between 1867-1878 and is the smallest of the three main forts and the one closest to Gosport. Standing on a stone and concrete foundation ring built directly on to the seabed, Spitbank Fort is constructed of iron, concrete and granite. Shortly after completion the Fort was decommissioned and never fired a shot in anger!

Hovercraft Museum

At Lee-on-the-Solent there is the Hovercraft Museum. The Solent has many connections with the hovercraft since SRN I was unveiled in 1957 by Sir Christopher Cockrell. It is not always open to the public, so do check before visiting, at www.hovercraft-museum.org

These museums will fascinate visitors of all ages, from the young to the not so young!

While at Lee, you may see the Coastguard rescue helicopter “India Juliet” the star of a popular TV series, operating from the adjacent airfield.

Lee seafront itself offers magnificent Solent and Isle of Wight views as does unspoilt Stokes Bay - at both you can safely swim, sail and windsurf.
